MAY: NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH
|
Caregivers needed for special needs children
Foster Care Select would like to salute all the area's foster parents who have opened their homes and hearts to children in need.
Nationally, according to fostercaremonth.org, there are over 513,000 children who are in foster care because their own families are in crisis and unable to provide for their essential wellbeing. In Indiana alone, there are more than 10,000 children receiving foster care services at any given time.
Children and youth in foster care are capable of overcoming the repercussions of previous abuse and neglect, but they cannot do it alone. They need the help and support of willing people to serve as their foster parents, relative caregivers, mentors, advocates, and volunteers.
Foster Care Select works to help special needs children achieve stability and permanency through therapeutic interventions and case coordination. These children need caregivers who can meet their serious physical, medical and emotional needs and help them learn to trust and form healthy relationships. They need to be part of loving families.
Those who have ever thought about fostering, are at least 21 years of age, and want to join the ranks of these unsung heroes, contact Foster Care Select at (317) 596-5178 to learn more about becoming a foster parent.
