Flashes best Cathedral in non-conference contest

The Franklin Central softball team boosted its season record to 14-3 by topping visiting Cathedral 5-2 on Friday, April 25, at the East Athletics Field Complex in a non-conference match-up.

Right-hander Jennifer DeMotte picked up the pitching decision for the Flashes, going the distance while allowing two hits and no earned runs. The junior whiffed 11 Cathedral batters and issued no free passes.

Senior Leah Prewitt and junior Many Leming sparked Franklin Central offensively. Both collected a pair of hits, with Prewitt banging out a triple and single in driving in one run. Leming stroked two singles and scored twice during the contest.

Franklin Central will carry its No. 7 statewide ranking and a modest three-game winning streak to Ben Davis on Monday, April 28, for a 5 p.m. start in the non-conference affair.

In jayvee competition, Franklin Central blanked Cathedral 10-0 in six innings to up its season ledger to 10-1. Lindsey DeRiter earned the pitching win, surrendering five hits while striking out six and walking none. The Flashes’ Denise Corom contributed two hits, earned one free pass and scored a pair of runs.
