Flashes skein halted by Bloomington North

Franklin Central's loss to Bloomington North in girls' tennis on Thursday, April 24, was somewhat closer than the final 4-1 scoreboard reading that favored the visiting Cougars might indicate.

Both doubles matches in the Conference Indiana confrontation extended to three sets and a couple of the singles battles were highly competitive.

Franklin Central posted its lone point at No. 2 doubles, where the Flashes' combo of senior Brittney Muston and sophomore Rachelle Smith bested Bloomington North juniors Janelle Beasley and Hele Rose. The FC duo opened with a 6-4 first-set triumph, before dropping the second segment 6-1. In the decisive third set, Muston and Smith prevailed 7-5.

At No. 1 doubles, the FC tandem of seniors Kelsey Pieratt and Jackie Schmaltz were beaten by Jessica Asher and Gaby DiPrimio 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.

In singles matches:

  • Senior Angela DeCamp lost to North senior Erin Bode 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.
  • Senior Katie Oldknow dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to the Cougars' Kate Bode.
  • Senior Heather Summitt was defeated by the visitors' Lauren Dechard 6-4, 6-3.

The loss snapped a modest two-meet Franklin Central winning streak, dropping FC to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

In jayvee action, Bloomington North captured 11 of 14 matches. Winners for the Flashes included Meagan Grant, Amanda Church and Whitney Rice, all in singles competition.
