The Franklin Central softball team teetered with history in the IHSAA Class 4A State Finals title game match-up. But it would be opportunistic McCutcheon – a 2-1 winner at the Ben Davis Softball Complex on Tuesday, June 10 – carving out a spot in the annals of state champions.
The post-game disappointment on the faces of the Flashes’ players, coaches and fans was evident. But the runner-up finish in the 24 th Annual State Tournament Series hardly diminishes an exciting tournament run that saw Franklin Central attain its first Final Four appearance.
“It is always disappointing for any team to get this far and not be able to win it all,” said Kathy Stricker, who guided the latest edition of FC softball to its deepest post-season run ever in her 29 seasons as the only softball coach in the school’s history.
